Remember Trixie? The little tri smooth who at only a year old had major heart surgery? Here is an update on our girl.
Tri State Collie Rescue took in Trixie as part of a group of smooth collies from a Tennessee puppy mill in April, 2018. She was diagnosed with PDA, patent ductus arteriosus. This is a congenital heart defect. She also had several other issues with her heart, which required major surgery to correct it all in May, 2018. She has recuperated first at the Vet Clinic of one of our volunteers, now in a foster home.
Trixie is doing well medically. Socially, she is still learning to trust humans. She refused to leave her crate at the vet clinic unless there was another collie to show her it was safe. She's making progress at her foster home. Trixie still feels most comfortable in her crate but does come out and spends time with her foster mom at night. She follows the other foster collie and resident collies around outside.
The 4th of July fireworks set her progress back some, as the loud noises terrified her. A thundershirt helped calm her.
Trixie has a follow up appointment with her cardiologist in August. Hopefully, her socialization will improve enough after she is medically cleared that we can begin to find her furever family.
One of the pictures with two smoothies in it has Trixie in the back. It was taken while Trixie was recuperating at the vet with her "friend." Trixie does better in the company of other confident collies.
Trixie is being fostered in KY.
