Rhett came to TSCR in a very different situation than most. He was very much loved and cared for by his family. However, his medical needs changed making the demographic for his optimal home change as well. In December Rhett was diagnosed with epilepsy. Currently he is being managed very well on medications, but these medications make him need more frequent potty breaks during the day coupled by the fact his former family didn’t want him alone during the day in the event he did have a seizure.
Rhett is very well adjusted and does well with dogs, cats and children. He does know how to sit, lay down and shake and walks very well on a leash. He is a large boy and did weight in at 95#s this week, so more leash walking is in his near future. He does experience a little anxiety and drooling when riding in the car. He is very verbal and will actually carry on a conversation with you. We are currently working on begging as he is a little pushy when it comes to people food. He is a grazer when it comes to his kibbles, but is very happy to see you break out the pill pocket when it is time for his medications.
The optimal home for Rhett would be one where someone is home the majority of the time and could present him with several options for potty breaks throughout the day and keep his medication on schedule. They would also need adequate space for a large dog as Rhett is a big boy and enjoy conversations with a collie.
Additionally, Rhett’s medications run between $100 – 125 per month and he needs bloodwork twice a year due to his epilepsy so we would want a potential home to take that into consideration.
Please apply if you think Rhett may be the guy for you!
His adoption is $325.
Rhett is being fostered in KY.
