Onyx is a three year old sheltie/border collie mix that exhibits the best of both breeds. She is very smart and quick to pick up on her routine. If she is hungry or needs to go outside, Onyx is gentle at first, placing her paw on your lap or making eye contact and wagging her tail. If more encouragement is needed, she will nudge your fingers away from your iPad or pat your arm. If you haven't gotten the message by then, she will bark her request!
Onyx was heart worm positive and had to stay quiet without a lot of activity for a while but now that she is healthy and heart worm free, she is ready to run, chase toys, and jump over obstacles.
Onyx does well with kids of all ages and is eager to have friends to herd. Upon first meeting, Onyx is hesitant around newcomers. Slow movements and soft voices for a few minutes give her a chance to check things out and warm up. Loud commands and startling noises do make this sensitive girl fearful.
Onyx isn't a big fan of thunderstorms and prefers to cuddle up during them.
Onyx attended an obedience class with her foster mom and she was the star of the class. She makes her human partner look really good!
This intelligent girl has a lot of potential as an agility dog. Onyx would love to go to a home with people that will nurture her very active, sharp mind and that will satisfy her craving for play and interaction.
