Kate is a ten year old sable and white collie who come to TSCR through no fault of her own when her owner passed away. She is a dog that likes to be close to her human(s) and will follow just wanting to be close, but will lay quietly at your feet when working at your desk or watching TV. Anyone wanting a sweet velcro dog doesn’t need to look any further than this lovely girl. She is the perfect companion.
Kate’s beautiful long coat was cut earlier this year, but is now growing back in and she will soon have her crowning glory and be the typical “Lassie-like” collie.
She has always lived with another dog and enjoys other K9 companionship. In fact, another easy going non-dominate dog in the home will help Kate ‘learn the ropes’ and settle into a new routine.
Kate potties when asked to and walks beautifully on the leash. She is housebroken and does not jump up on furniture. She even navigates hardwood floors with no problems, but carpets will help her to continue to navigate with confidence.
Kate will stare you down at mealtime but doesn’t jump up for food or counter-surf. She has never been crated but she sleeps well in a dog bed in her foster family’s bedroom.
Kate is new to stairs inside the house so she will need someone to help her understand how to get up and down them if she goes to a home with many stairs. She has been temporarily fostered in a home with two floors, but slept downstairs with the other family dog and lived on the first floor. She has no issues going up and down a few steps on and off the deck to the yard, and out the front door down to the drive.
Kate is also good with cats and has had cat friends in her past.
Kate was not exposed to children in her past, and is not comfortable with the high energy and activity that comes with young children. A home with teens or an adult only home would be best.
Kate is up-to- date on all of her vaccinations and ready for her forever home.
She is being fostered in Maryland.
