Happy is a 60 pound hunk of love. He has some collie in him and we are not sure what else, our best guess is golden retriever although he has more of a Saint Bernard temperament.
Happy is a work in progress at only nine months old. Sadly, he spent his first eight months of life tied outside. He learned to play fetch today thanks to his foster family, and he seems to be doing well with house training.
Happy is still a big puppy so his tendency to chew needs to be managed with plenty of appropriate toys to keep his chewing under control. He is very good in crate. Happy is a fairly high energy boy, especially as he is so young, so a fenced yard is a must. He will do well with an active person or family that is enthusiastic about providing him with obedience class and other types of activities like hiking or agility; he needs something to do to keep his mind engaged and help him learn how to be a good doggy citizen.
After spending so long tied up outside with no guidance, he will need someone with patience. Happy does plays rough with other dogs but he is not aggressive. Again, he just hasn’t ever learned how to interact appropriately with other dogs. He will do best in a household without older or small dogs as he might inadvertently hurt them with his puppy exuberance. This beautiful young dog has a lot of potential to be a great companion, but he will need an owner with patience and the knowledge to teach and train him.
Happy is being fostered in SE Michigan.
