Axil is about four years old and is a sable and white male collie. He is a wonderful dog with a lot of love to give. He was rescued as a puppy when he was found sleeping in a chicken coop. His former owner told us there was no way she was leaving him there and she took him home with her. His senior owner surrendered him because she could no longer care for him and give him love he so much deserves. This owner told a very heartwarming story that about a year ago, she went into congestive heart failure, lost consciousness and was lying on the floor in her living room. Axil continued to bark until he woke up her son that was also living in the home. She believes Axil saved her.

Axil is a wonderful all-round collie that is good with everyone, especially seniors. He needs no fence and stays by your side at all times, even indoors. Axil is quite spoiled as you can tell by his weight of 71 pounds that he has had lots of treats. He is good with dogs and with very young children. Upon surrender he had very little energy level and was having heavy breathing. All he wanted to do is eat and sleep. He did not like going outside or playing and experienced some hair loss. After seeing a vet it was discovered that he has hypothyroidism. Since then he has started on his medication that costs about $12.00 a month. After one day of medication Axil started coming around and generally feeling much better. He still has some heavy breathing due to his weight, but hopefully this will resolve with a careful diet. Axil did have one minor incident of food guarding where he snapped a little at another dog, but has had no incidents since then. He is house broken, loves riding in the car or a truck, walks well on a leash and is generally a wonderful dog. He will make a loving companion to any family lucky enough to share their lives with him.
